The Great Lakes Towing Company operates a shipyard and drydock
that specializes in all types of marine repair service for tugboats, supply
boats, ferries, barges, cruise boats, large yachts, and may other types of vessels,
including topside repairs of larger domestic and foreign cargo vessels. The shipyard is a major contractor for the
U.S. Coast Guard, the Army Corps of Engineers, the U.S. Navy, NOAA, and other
state and local governments attesting to its high-quality workmanship, on-time
performance, and competitive pricing.
The Shipyard is located in the Old River Channel on the Cuyahoga
River in Cleveland, Ohio. Initially
established for the construction and maintenance of the Company's own fleet of
tugboats, it was expanded in the early 1980s to include commercial marine
repairs services for all types of commercial and government vessels, tugs
supply boats, ferries, barges, and municipal water craft. Topside work of every kind for laker and
saltwater vessels of all sizes is performed either at the customer's dock or at
other deep-water berths. Drydocking and
bottomwork for vessels of up to 250 tons is performed on its drydock. Steel fabrications, new construction and
winter lay-up work is also performed at its facilities. The Shipyard has performed under long-term
contracts providing vessels topside repairs and maintenance to the U.S. Coast
Guard on the Great Lakes; a tribute to its high-quality workmanship, on-time
performance, and competitive pricing.
Our shipyard expertise includes an entire array of work on both
commercial and government vessels, as well as the design, construction and
maintenance and repair of our own tugboat fleet.
Notably Great Lakes Towing Shipyard work also includes
construction of the Great Lakes Towing Shipyard drydock, and the complete
renovation, re-engineering and reconstruction of the Tug Robinson Bay, owned
and operated by the Saint Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation, U.S.
Department of Transportation. Our track
